OML recently welcomed its newest intern, Logan Schomaker. Every semester, OML partners with the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University to give current students a meaningful public policy experience.
Here's more information about Logan:
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Logan Schomaker, and I am a freshman at The Ohio State University from Long Island, New York. I am majoring in Public Leadership, Management, and Policy with a focus on law and public policy. I am passionate about civic engagement and leadership, and I have been actively involved in athletics, particularly football, which has helped me develop strong teamwork and leadership skills. Outside of class, I enjoy participating in community service initiatives and exploring opportunities that allow me to make a meaningful impact in local and state government.
What drew you to an OML internship?
I was drawn to the Ohio Municipal League because of its role in supporting municipalities across the state through advocacy, policy guidance, and professional development. I am particularly interested in gaining firsthand experience with how local and state governments interact and learning more about the legislative process in Ohio. The opportunity to see policy in action and contribute to meaningful work at the state level aligns closely with my academic and career goals.
What do you want to take away from your internship with OML?
Through this internship, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the legislative process and how policy decisions impact municipalities throughout Ohio. I also would like to build relationships with key stakeholders and professionals in Ohio’s government, while developing practical skills that will help prepare me for a future career in public service and policy.
